Gonzo is gone

In his last defiant act, criminally incompetent ex-Attorney General, Alberto "Fredo" Gonzales gave the evil eye to tourists visiting the White House. All evidence points to the verdict that he's left behind a shitload of craptastic sycophants in his oily wake.

Don't you f***in cry for me, Argentina!

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- "Gonzales received an emotional and staunchly supportive send-off in the final hour of his last day on the job at the Justice Department on Friday... [He] was praised by no fewer than 10 Justice lieutenants and agency heads -- some with their voices cracking."

Time's up... soon(ish)

In a stern rebuke of the Bush administration's continued obstruction of justice, Sen. Patrick Leahy, the Senate Judiciary Committee Chair freely admitted: "no question they're in contempt of a valid order of the Congress." The Committee has given White House officials more than a month to turn over the documents and granted previous extensions of a subpoena it issued in June. That delay "goes way beyond what anyone expected," Leahy said. "Time is up. We've waited long enough."

Then the Chairman really unloaded with both barrels blazing:

Unless the administration complies with the subpoena, "The full Judiciary Committee will have to sit down and determine whether to seek contempt from the full Senate."

In other words, the venerable committee may have to convene in special session to consider if something ought to be done. Oh, the tension.

General Pet Peeve

For the record, regarding positions like the Surgeon General, the latter part of the title is not a rank. The Attorney General for example isn't somebody who has been promoted from Attorney Colonel. Thus the correcter plural form is "attorneys general," although thanks to good old fashioned American democracy, the alternate form "attorney generals" is now acceptable according to some standard dictionaries.

Nevertheless, a big red raspberry goes out this morning to Senator Kennedy. He usually sounds so erudite with his New English accent (some even claim the Kennedys have evolved their own dialect) , but he tarnished his lingua familia when he began his opening remarks in the Alberto Gonzales hearings with the greeting, "Good morning, General." A poor bit of usage from one of this country's senators major.
