Why not use coffins?

CNN is reporting that the U.S. has resorted to locking up some Iraqi's in 3x3x6 foot wooden crates. Meanwhile, irony meters around the globe went offline as George W. Bush took the opportunity of his Olympic junket to chide China for engaging in repression.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The U.S. military is segregating violent Iraqi prisoners in wooden crates that in some cases are not much bigger than the prisoners.

The military released photos of what it calls "segregation boxes" used in Iraq.

Three grainy black-and-white photos show the rudimentary structures of wood and mesh. Some of the boxes are as small as 3 feet by 3 feet by 6 feet tall, according to military officials. There was no image released of a box that size.

The average Iraqi male is 5 feet 6 inches tall, according to the Iraqi Ministry of Health. That leaves little room for a prisoner to move once placed inside. [More...]

Called by the American government "segregation boxes," this lovely model to the left looks like it could house a whole family. Could this be Portland's answer to affordable housing. If it's good enough for the Iraqi's, it ought to be good enough for us. After all, we're paying for these boxes.
